If you enjoy the beauty of wood shutters but need additional humidity resistance, we at DM Interiors & Design suggest Hunter Douglas composite shutters. These stunning faux wood shutters are a triumph of beauty and engineering that we guarantee will be a lovely addition to your home. No matter what type or shape of windows you have, we can help you find the right shutter that will fit perfectly and provide the lighting and privacy you need.
Why Choose Composite Shutters?
Hunter Douglas composite shutters combine the beauty of hardwood shutters with the lasting power of polypropylene construction. These faux wood shutters are resistant to moisture, mold, and mildew. They also feature specialized Crosslink™ construction that helps them resist warping and bowing. This makes Hunter Douglas composite shutters an ideal choice for humid climates or rooms that are rich in moisture.
Composite shutters are easier to clean than hardwood shutters, but their similar design aesthetic and finish options can make them look almost identical. This allows you to mix and match hardwood and faux wood shutters to use the best products for each window and maintain a unified aesthetic look throughout your home. Hunter Douglas calls this their Whole House Solution™, and they offer this coordinated look with several of their window treatment options.
Hunter Douglas Composite Shutter Styles
NewStyle® Composite Shutters
NewStyle® shutters feature the same Truemill® dovetail joints and stain options as Hunter Douglas hardwood shutters. They are built to last and have several style options that set them apart. When choosing faux wood shutters, you can select a wood stain and an Ultragrain™ Finish, which mimics the look of natural woodgrain. These shutters can also be painted in several shades of white and off-white. Choosing one of these neutral tones can help open up your space, and shades of white are perfect for both a modern and classic look. Your white shutters are also more easily seen from the street, which can increase your home’s curb appeal and resale value.
One option available with NewStyle® Composite Shutters that you won’t see in other Hunter Douglas shutters is the SoftClose® tilt operating option. As you will find on drawers and cabinet doors, this tilt option automatically and gently closes the louvers of your composite shutter once they have reached a preset angle. This means you don’t need to sweep your hand across the entire shutter to close the louvers completely.

This operating option makes composite shutters an excellent choice for larger windows where reaching all louvers can prove challenging. SoftClose™ louvers also have the Quick Alight™ feature. This feature creates five different preset louver positions that allows you to feel the faux wood shutters click into place as you rotate them. The preset positions are excellent for light and control, and they also make it easy to unify the look and angle of multiple composite shutters all across your home.
Hunter Douglas Composite Shutter Styles
In addition to the exclusive SoftClose® tilt operating, NewStyle® Composite Shutters share both opening and tilt operating options with both Hunter Douglas hardwood and vinyl shutters. You can choose the bi-fold track, which hinges and slides to the side of your window frame. The bypass track option allows the composite shutter panels to slide side to side and pass each other, which is an ideal choice for sliding glass doors. Traditional hinged panels are the most common opening operation as they simply swing open. As far as tilt options, the two available options that aren’t SoftClose™ are an easy-to-grasp Front Tilt Bar or the HiddenTilt™.

Discover the Benefits of Composite Shutters
Composite shutters offer a compelling blend of durability, aesthetic appeal, and low maintenance, making them an excellent choice for many homeowners. Crafted from a combination of wood fibers and polymers, these shutters provide the classic look of wood without the susceptibility to warping, cracking, or fading.
Their robust construction ensures they can withstand various environmental conditions, from intense sunlight to high humidity, making them a versatile option for both interior and exterior applications. Explore how composite shutters can enhance the beauty and functionality of your home.
Exploring the Advantages of Composite Shutters
When considering window treatments, the unique properties of composite shutters make them a standout option. Their construction, often a blend of wood fibers and advanced polymers, provides a material that is both aesthetically pleasing and exceptionally resilient. This makes them an ideal choice for areas prone to moisture or significant temperature fluctuations, where traditional wood might struggle. Unlike natural wood, composite materials are inherently resistant to warping, cracking, and insect damage, ensuring a longer lifespan and reduced need for upkeep.
The versatility of composite shutters extends to their design possibilities. They can be engineered to mimic the look of real wood with remarkable accuracy, offering a wide range of colors and finishes to complement any interior design scheme. Whether you’re looking for the classic elegance of wood shutters or the practical durability of other shutter types, composite offers a balanced solution. They are a fantastic alternative to vinyl shutters, often providing a more premium feel and superior performance. For those seeking the quintessential look of plantation shutters, composite materials are frequently used in their construction, delivering both style and substance.
Furthermore, the ease of maintenance associated with composite shutters is a significant draw for busy homeowners. A simple wipe-down is usually all that’s needed to keep them looking their best, freeing up more time for enjoying your home. If you’re exploring options for your home, consider how these durable and attractive shutters can enhance your living spaces. You can find more information on various shutter styles, including plantation shutters, to help you make an informed decision.
